This page explains what personal data we collect, what we use it for and what you can do about it. It is written to be understood without a law degree: if anything is unclear, write to us and we will explain it.
Who is responsible for your data
The controller of the data collected through this site is:
- Registered name:
- Turismo Jorge Jerez EIRL
- Tax ID (RUT):
- 78.170.783-K
- Address:
- Badajoz 100, Of. 820, Las Condes, Santiago, Región Metropolitana, Chile
- Sernatur registration:
- 95386
- Email for data protection matters:
- info@altiplano.travel
What data we collect
When you write to us through the contact form we collect only what you enter into it:
- Your first and last name.
- Your email address.
- Your phone number, if you choose to provide it.
- Your approximate travel date and how many people are travelling, which we use to prepare your proposal.
- The content of your message.
If you do travel with us we also need your full name, passport number, nationality and date of birth, to book flights and accommodation and to obtain access permits. We keep no copy of the document itself — only those details.
You do not need to register or create an account to browse this site or to write to us.
We also measure anonymously how the site is used: the page visited, the approximate country, the type of device and the language. This measurement stores neither your IP address nor any identifier that could recognise you or track you between visits.
What we use it for
Answering your enquiry and preparing a travel proposal
This is the only reason we ask for data in the form. The basis is your own request: without it we cannot reply to you.
Understanding how the site is used
The anonymous measurement described above tells us which content is of interest and helps us spot errors. The basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site in good shape, and since the data is anonymous it does not affect you personally.
We do not send newsletters or advertising, we do not build commercial profiles, and we do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising purposes.
Health data on high-altitude expeditions
For high-altitude expeditions we ask for information we do not request on other trips: a medical form, any health conditions that could affect you at altitude, insurance with rescue cover and an emergency contact.
We need it to assess whether the expedition is safe for you, so your guide can react if something happens on the mountain, and to trigger a rescue if one becomes necessary. Above six thousand metres, that information can be the difference between a timely evacuation and a late one.
Health data carries stronger protection, so we handle it separately from everything else: we always ask for it with your express consent, only where the expedition warrants it, and only those involved in your safety ever see it.
It is shared with the guide responsible for your group, with the insurer covering rescue and, in an emergency, with the medical or rescue services attending to you.
You can withdraw that consent at any time. Bear in mind that without this information we cannot take you on a high-altitude expedition safely, so withdrawing it may mean cancelling your participation.
Who else has access to your data
We do not pass your data to anyone who is not needed to assist you. The following providers process it on our behalf:
- Web3Forms, which carries the form message through to our mailbox.
- BanaHosting, the company hosting our mailbox, where your enquiry is stored.
- If you book a trip, we pass the essential details to those who make it possible: accommodation, visitor sites, tour operators, airlines and insurance companies. Only what is necessary, and only to those involved in your trip.
- If you pay online, the payment is processed directly by the payment provider. We never see or store your card details.
For expeditions in border areas we are required to obtain authorisation from Difrol (Chile’s National Directorate of Borders and Boundaries), providing each participant’s name, passport number, nationality and date of birth. Without that procedure the expedition cannot go ahead, so it is not a disclosure we are able to waive.
If you prefer to reach us on WhatsApp, that conversation is held on Meta’s servers and subject to that service’s terms. You can write by email or call us instead if you would rather avoid it.
We may also disclose data where a law or a competent authority requires us to.
Data hosted outside Chile
Our mailbox is hosted on servers located in the United States. Your enquiry is therefore stored physically outside Chile and outside the European Economic Area.
In addition, some of the providers we work with — airlines, insurers and operators in other countries — are outside Chile, so your travel details may be handled in the country where each service is delivered. WhatsApp messages, if you use them, are also handled outside Chile.
We state this explicitly so that you can decide with full information. If you would rather not send your data by this route, you can contact us by phone or WhatsApp on the numbers published on this site.
How long we keep it
If your enquiry does not lead to a booking, we keep the email for 24 months from the last contact and then delete it.
If you do travel with us, we keep your file for 6 years from the end of the trip. That period covers two obligations at once: Chilean tax law requires us to retain transaction records, and it is also the window during which liability arising from the trip could be claimed.
You can ask us to delete them sooner, and we will do so unless a legal obligation prevents it.
Cookies
This site uses no advertising, social media or tracking cookies, and does not share your browsing with third parties for commercial purposes. You will not see a banner asking you to accept cookies because there is nothing to accept.
The only storage that may appear in your browser is the strictly technical kind used by our security provider to tell people apart from automated programs and protect the site.
Some pages embed third-party content, such as the weather forecast or the payment button. When they load, those services receive your IP address, just as they would on any site. The payment button loads only if you choose to pay online.
Your rights
Regarding the data we hold about you, you may ask us at any time to:
- Access it and obtain a copy.
- Correct it if it is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete it.
- Object to our use of it, or ask us to restrict that use.
- Receive it in a format that lets you take it to another provider.
To exercise any of these rights, write to info@altiplano.travel telling us what you need. We may ask for some detail to confirm your identity, and we will not charge you for handling your request.
We will reply within 30 days.
If you believe we have not handled your request properly, you may complain to the data protection authority in your country of residence.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we do not collect data directly from them. When the form asks how many children are travelling, we collect only the number. If they do travel, we need their details to book accommodation and insurance for them just like everyone else: these are always provided by the responsible adult booking the trip, and kept for the same period as the rest of the file.
Changes to this policy
If we change the way we handle data we will update this page and its last-updated date. We suggest reviewing it if some time has passed since you last read it.
Questions?
If anything above is unclear, write to info@altiplano.travel and we will explain it without jargon.
