Amazing stargazing experience

I had an amazing stargazing experience in San Pedro de Atacama with Jorge. It was truly one of the highlights of my trip! The night sky was absolutely breathtaking, with an incredible number of stars visible. Jorge is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about astronomy. He answered every question we had with clear and interesting explanations, and he was always available to help and make sure everyone had the best possible experience. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Pedro de Atacama!

Excellent Trip Organized by Altiplano Expediciones

Our family recently spent 5 days and 4 nights exploring the Atacama Desert with Altiplano Expediciones, and the experience exceeded all of our expectations. From the very beginning, Jorge and Andrea were incredibly helpful in organizing our itinerary and helping us choose the best tours for our family. They were always responsive, professional, and attentive, checking in with us daily to make sure everything was going smoothly and meeting our expectations. Over the course of three tour days, we had the pleasure of touring with Mauricio, who was absolutely outstanding and his English was excellent. He provided fascinating insights tailored to each excursion and shared so much history and cultural context about the local people and the region. He truly elevated the experience. We also participated in a bike tour and an astronomy/stargazing tour that were arranged through third-party providers recommended by Altiplano Expediciones. Both experiences were excellent and very professionally run. The bike tour was a fun and unique way to experience the landscape, while the astronomy tour was truly unforgettable, with breathtaking views of the Atacama night sky and knowledgeable guides who made the experience both educational and inspiring. The logistics were flawless throughout the trip. Hotel pickups and drop-offs were always punctual, and the vehicles were modern, spacious, and very clean, making long drives through the desert comfortable and enjoyable. Before booking, we requested quotes from several tour operators, and we are extremely happy that we chose Altiplano Expediciones. The level of service, organization, and personal attention we received was exceptional. We highly recommend Jorge and his team to anyone planning a trip to the Atacama Desert.

An Enchanting Trip with. A Great Guide

We are a group of 6, family and friends. When we reached Jorge for our 3-night visit of the Atacama desert, he was only available on the last day. He gave us recommendations to maximize our short visit and was very flexible based on what we'd like to see and do. Jorge made sure we had adequate time to acclimatize before going to sights of high altitude. We stayed outside of San Pedro de Atacama. Jorge came early to pick us up, and then made a quick stop at the best bakery in town to make sure we have croissants of Paris quality as morning snack. His Toyota Land Cruiser was very comfortable for the 6 of us. Jorge was very knowledgeable about the history, culture and ecosystem, not just the Atacama desert but also Chile South where he grew up. The long drive turned out to be a great class with invaluable information beyond tour books and a feast for the eyes with wildlife and amazing sceneries. Along the long drive we saw flamingos among many other wildlife. While we took endless photos of these elegant and beautiful creatures in their serene natural habitat, Jorge talked to us about the distinct features of three species of flamingo in the region. The brunch Jorge prepared for us was a pleasant and delicious surprise. While we enjoyed peaceful and amazing view of vicuñas, Nandu and different birds, Jorge set up the table and laid out an abundant meal in an amazing setting. We were all able to sit down and enjoy great local food and conversations. I'm still trying to find the marmalade Jorge shared with us. It's made of quince and rica rica, both local to the region. After meal, we had a short but very enlightening hike where Jorge talked about region's biodiversity of the ecosystem with presence of rare plants and animal bones. If feasible, hire a professional guide, one like Jorge. You'll get so much more from the tour. After all, it's a once a lifetime experience, you'll want to get the most of it. We highly recommend Jorge no matter where you travel to in Chile.

Excellent family experience with the personal touch

We arrived in San Pedro de Atacama during high season not having organised anything at all (which is definitely not recommended if you want a relaxing trip!). Nevertheless we ended up being very lucky to be put in touch with Jorge who came highly recommended by our hotel. He came to see us in person at our hotel and made recommendations for a bespoke set of private activities which would be most suitable for us (me, my wife and our daughter who was under 2 years old) - we changed our minds multiple times about what we wanted to do but Jorge was very accommodating and arranged everything for us despite everything being so last minute. One of his trusted guides Mauricio took us out on each of the three days. We had a great time exploring the Valle de la Luna, the Rainbow Valley, the Chaxa lagoon (home of the flamingos) and also a cultural trip to meet a local atacameña woman from the indigenous community who keeps llamas and find out a little about traditional local life. Our daughter loved it too. Mauricio was also very flexible and relaxed with us and worked to our schedule (including making on the spot adjustments to fit activities around our daughter's naps!). Jorge also personally took us to view the sunset at Coyote point which was a great experience. Generally our whole experience really had the personal touch and everyone was lovely with our daughter. Jorge is an experienced mountaineering guide and can arrange much more intense multi-day excursions for adventurous people (which not long ago we'd have loved to do too!) but he was also great at arranging the more pedestrian activities we needed to do as a young family. He told us that he is expanding his operation nationally so we'll look him up and recommend him to friends and family visiting not just Atacama but other parts of Chile as well. Thanks Jorge!

Hiking and high altitude adventures in San Pedro de Atacama!

We spent six days in San Pedro de Atacama in late November 2025. Jorge arranged for us to see both the typical tourist attractions - geysers, salt flats, high altitude lakes, lots of flamingos and vicunas. He also took us to unique and special areas that few other people visit! Jorge and the other guides who work with Altiplano Expediciones were wonderful and very knowledgeable about the geology, plants, animals and indigenous history of the area! The weather was perfect - 80s in town and 50s on the altiplano. It was cool to see the start of rainy season with the clouds coming in from the Amazon! Definitely recommend going with Altiplano Expediciones if you like going off the beaten path!

A journey through lagunas, desert, volcanos and Altiplano

We did an amazing private tour with Jorge from San Pedro de Atacama to La Paz in collaboration with bolivian contacts for six days and saw absolutely incredible landscapes. Jorge is very passionate and knows a lot about nature in Altiplano. Hiking, swimming in hot springs, camping, hotels, local food and good wine. It was a real pleasure!

Expert Guidance and Thoughtful Organization. Jorge brought the stunning landscapes of the Atacama and Altiplano to life for us. Over the course of five incredible days, he meticulously organized and personally guided our journey, ensuring that every detail was tailored to our needs as independent travellers aged 69 and 70. His expertise and thoughtful planning allowed us to experience these unique regions in ways we would never have managed on our own. Unforgettable Activities in Remote Locations. Our expedition with Jorge included a diverse range of activities, such as hiking, swimming, bird watching, and sightseeing. Each day was filled with exploration of remote and distinctive sites, far off the typical tourist paths. Thanks to Jorge's local knowledge, we were able to avoid crowds and often found ourselves as the only visitors in remarkable, secluded locations. Delicious Lunches and Personal Touches. Adding to the experience, Jorge's wife prepared wonderful, healthy lunches and snacks, which we enjoyed at the beautiful sites Jorge selected for our breaks. 11 day safari through Chile Bolivia and Peru

Jorge is the best of tour guides! He has a genuine interest in providing guests with a unique and special adventure. It feels like quite the first-class trip when Jorge takes you to beautiful places that not many tourists get to, at times of day with the fewest other people around, and lets you explore them at your leisure. He took us on beautiful hikes during our 11-day highland "safari" to see South American: ostriches (rhea), viscachas, vicuñas, guanacos, condors, a large variety of birds, ducks and geese, foxes, herds of llamas and alpacas and more. He set up a nicely-laid table at scenic spots for delicious healthy meals and Chilean wine along the way. We very much appreciated his diligence and helpfulness, his immense breadth of knowledge of flora, fauna, culture and history, his experience, patience, kindness, trustworthiness and sense of humour. Our trip took us from San Pedro de Atacama to Bolivia, then north through the Chilean highlands to Puno, on Lake Titicaca in Peru. The Bolivian and Peruvian guides he organized for those portions of the tour were excellent too, making border crossings smooth and easy. A once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thank you Jorge!

An amazing trip through the altiplano!

Jorge guided us around the San Pedro de Atacama area for 4 days and then coordinated getting us over to Bolivia and back and up through the Peruvian border to Puno, 10 days in all. Every detail was thoughtfully planned out to avoid the crowds and to give us a unique experience based on our interests. He is extremely knowledgeable about the geography, geology, history, and flora and fauna of the area. He made us feel so safe, well fed, and well looked after. A truly wonderful experience.

Road trip from Calama to Puno

Jorge helped us organize a fabulous expedition in the Atacama and Altiplano regions of Chile and Bolivia. He planned and organized the places we stayed and our guide in Bolivia. We were well taken care of and felt safe. He took us to out of the way places to have wonderful experiences. Camping by hotsprings on a salt flat, hiking in remote canyons and cactus forests. We saw lots of wildlife as well. Jorge has an excellent knowledge of the geological and cultural history as well as the flora and fauna of the area. He provided excellent healthy meals accompanied by tasty Chilean wines.
